Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is set to inform a key member of the club’s defensive ranks that he is not in his plans for next season.

This is what Defensa Central says, which names David Alaba as the player in question.

Goalkeeper Alaba is coming off a difficult season in the Spanish capital, where his recovery from a serious knee injury took much longer than originally planned.

On the ground, the Austrian’s performances sometimes left something to be desired.

Add to that the fact that he is due to turn 33 later this month, as well as Alaba’s high salary, and Real Madrid are poised to look for a sale this summer.

According to Defensa Central  :

Xabi Alonso agreed with the club to give Alaba the freedom to negotiate with any other team if he wishes. “In principle, we’re not counting on you, but if you want to stay, you’ll be one of us,” the message read.
