Usyk’s Coach Disparages Jake Paul: “I’d Have to Fight Him With One Hand Behind My Back”
Jake Paul may be one of the biggest names in boxing right now, but his fame is more a result of his celebrity status than his performance in the ring. While he has many fights ahead of him and the potential to improve, he remains leagues apart from a boxer like Oleksandr Usyk.
Usyk’s coach, Sergey Lapin, made it clear that the two fighters are on entirely different levels. In an interview with Betway on YouTube, Lapin remarked, “He’s proven he’s the best of this generation and, once he’s retired Tyson Fury, he will consider his options. Maybe that’s dropping down in weight again, or maybe there’s a wildcard option on the table for him; be it in the boxing ring, the MMA cage, or even Conor McGregor’s Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.”
Lapin even joked about the prospect of Usyk facing Jake Paul, saying, “Maybe it’s Jake Paul at cruiserweight, although Usyk would need to fight him with one hand behind his back to make it fair.”
Lapin’s comments come amidst speculation about Usyk’s future in the sport. With potential opponents dwindling, there are suggestions that Usyk could switch disciplines. Lapin hinted at this possibility on Instagram, addressing Conor McGregor directly: “First Oleksandr Usyk has to retire Tyson Fury, but our team is ready to make something great together with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Let’s talk.”
Conor McGregor responded enthusiastically, writing, “USYK IN BARE KNUCKLE!” on a post featuring Lapin’s quotes. Usyk himself seemed open to the idea, sharing the message on his Instagram story with the caption, “Let’s talk.”
As Usyk prepares for his next moves in the boxing world, fans are eager to see whether he will continue to dominate the sport or take on new challenges in different fighting disciplines.
