Undefeated boxer Mayweather is not the greatest: A boxer appears “100 fights, 100 wins”

Floyd Mayweather, 46 years old, retired in 2015 with a boxing record of 50 wins. The American boxer is known as “The loner and the loser”, he calls himself the GOAT (greatest in history) of Boxing.

As soon as Mayweather patted his chest and announced himself, there were many veteran boxers who objected, including the legendary Mike Tyson, who said that his juniors had competed in too few matches compared to their seniors, so they did not deserve to be GOAT.

Recently, a big controversy broke out when Ricardo Lopez, a former Mexican boxer, appeared with a professional record of 51-0-1 (51 wins, 0 losses, 1 draw). Lopez, 57 years old, retired in 2001, with 51 wins and 1 draw, clearly better statistics than Mayweather.

According to Worldboxingnews, the boxer nicknamed “The Sophisticated One” Lopez also has a winning amateur career of more than 50 matches. That shows Lopez went more than 100 matches without losing from 1981 to 2001. Mayweather also had an amateur career, winning 44 matches and losing 7.

Compared to Lopez, Mayweather’s ratio would be 94-7 (94 wins, 7 losses) if counting the total number of fights. Therefore, Lopez deserves to be GOAT if people consider performance as the most important criterion.

But choosing who is the GOAT of a sport always causes a lot of controversy. Despite having a brilliant track record, Lopez is less famous than Mayweather. Surely fans of the American “Lonely and Defeated” do not want the Mexican boxer to become the greatest puncher in Boxing.
