Tyson Fury Shocked When Losing WBC Championship Belt To Oleksandr Usyk
In an emotional fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Tyson Fury suffered the first defeat of his professional boxing career to Oleksandr Usyk, costing him his WBC world heavyweight title. This caused a huge shock in the boxing world, especially with Fury, who called himself the “Gypsy King.”
Fury had to relinquish his world heavyweight title after losing the undisputed fight in Riyadh. The defeat was emotionally devastating for Fury, who had to leave a pub in Morecambe drunk after losing.
However, he has announced he will soon return to the gym and prepare for a rematch on December 21 in hopes of regaining the world championship belt. Before this rematch, the WBC made the shocking decision to rank Fury second in the heavyweight rankings, behind Usyk and Anthony Joshua.
The WBC rankings list also recorded the advancement of Agit Kabayel, who ranked third, and Zhilei Zhang, who defeated Deontay Wilder. Other fighters such as Efe Ajagba, Jared Anderson and Martin Bakole also appear in the top 10 of the rankings.
Fury confidently announced on social networks that he will regain the undisputed throne by the end of this year: “Listen! I have conquered everything in boxing – titles, records, a lot of things . But I have never had to come back from a loss. On December 21 in Riyadh, in the heart of the kingdom, the king will reclaim his throne and become undisputed welcome you! Get ready for the Gypsy King!”
Usyk, who defeated Fury and Anthony Joshua to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, has credited Fury as the toughest opponent he has ever faced. Despite this, Usyk said Derek Chisora is the hardest punching opponent he has faced.
The rematch between Usyk and Fury is scheduled for December 21 in Saudi Arabia, and Usyk is also scheduled to return to the cruiserweight division after this fight. “I think maybe after the rematch I’ll drop down to cruiserweight. I want more fights at cruiserweight,” Usyk said.
