Tyson Fury has just suffered his first career defeat, losing to Usyk in the heavyweight title unification bout, and it seems partly due to the infamous “rapper Drake curse.” Knocked down and disoriented in the ninth round, pressured to the brink in the final rounds, and ultimately losing by decision, Tyson Fury has experienced bitter disappointment with this defeat to Usyk in the world heavyweight unification match. Adding insult to injury, Fury’s loss may partly be attributed to the “rapper Drake curse.” Immediately following Fury’s defeat, media outlets reported that the renowned Canadian rapper had previously placed a bet of over half a million dollars, precisely $565,000, on Fury to defeat Usyk. If successful, Drake would have pocketed over $1 million.
There wouldn’t be much of an issue if Drake wasn’t famous for his notorious “betting curse,” as most fighters and sports teams he backs tend to lose miserably. Prior to the Fury-Usyk bout, Drake had also wagered $615,000 on the highly anticipated showdown between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou.
In that fight, Drake sided with former UFC champion Ngannou, and the result saw the Cameroonian fighter… flat on the canvas in less than… 6 minutes of the bout.
