Tyson Fury was not pleased with Floyd Mayweather’s remarks ahead of his third fight with Deontay Wilder. Fury, known as the Gypsy King, had already cemented his dominance in the boxing world by defeating Wilder in their 2020 rematch, seizing the WBC heavyweight world title and shattering Wilder’s unbeaten streak.
The unexpected defeat stunned many American fans, especially since Wilder had confidently predicted he would retire undefeated. Before his loss to Fury, Wilder had aspired to surpass Mayweather’s perfect 50-0 record, boasting a 42-0-1 record.
During a Q&A session on his UK tour following the rematch, Mayweather commented on the heavyweight division and offered to train Wilder for the third fight, claiming he could teach him how to defeat Fury. Mayweather stated, “If I train him… If I train him I can teach him how to win.”
Fury, however, did not take these comments lightly. He quickly responded on social media, posting, “Floyd Mayweather, no matter what you teach him, I will smash him.”
Ultimately, Wilder chose not to accept Mayweather’s offer and instead assembled a new training team led by Malik Scott. Despite showing an improved performance in the third bout, where he managed to knock Fury down twice, Wilder was himself knocked down three times, with the final knockdown resulting in a straight KO.
Talk of a fourth fight between Fury and Wilder has lingered, but Fury has since moved on to other challenges. In 2022, he defeated Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora. When a potential fight with Oleksandr Usyk seemed imminent, Fury instead opted to face former UFC champion Francis Ngannou, narrowly winning that bout.
