Tyson Fury was left gutted by the judges’ decision to award Oleksandr Usyk the title of undisputed champion. The ‘Gypsy King’ entered the highly anticipated showdown with Usyk with hopes of becoming the first boxer to hold all four heavyweight belts simultaneously. However, he was defeated by a split decision.
Fury, who narrowly avoided a stoppage loss in the ninth round, believed he had done enough to win the fight. After his post-fight interview, a visibly frustrated Fury returned to the changing room, voicing his displeasure: “Get up boys. They ripped me off there. I won the fight by four or five rounds, but you can never tell when you are in there.”
Despite the loss, Fury maintained a positive outlook, even though he was adamant that he had done enough to beat Usyk. Punch statistics, however, showed that Usyk outlanded him, supporting the judges’ decision.
Fury’s defeat means he narrowly missed making history, but he has a chance at immediate redemption with a rematch targeted for October. Although the rematch may not be for undisputed status, the possibility of a future fight with British rival Anthony Joshua remains.
Reflecting on his career and future, Fury stated: “We punched each other for 12 rounds. I’m going to go home, drink some beers, have some family time, and then discuss the future with Frank Warren. If there’s going to be another fight in October, then we’ll rock and roll. I’m boxing because I love it, not because I need the money.”
At 35, Fury acknowledged the toll boxing takes but expressed his love for the sport. “I’ve been boxing since I was a child. For as long as I’m loving the game, I’ll continue to do it, and when I don’t, I’ll pack it up.”
Despite the setback, Fury’s determination and passion for boxing suggest that his story is far from over, and fans eagerly await his next move.
