Tyson Fury announced that he will turn on “destruction mode” against Usyk in the upcoming rematch and the factor that can help the British boxer win is his body weight
The rematch between Tyson Fury and Usyk 2 will take place before Christmas this year, December 22 in the “new capital of boxing in the world”, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). 7 months ago, Usyk won overwhelmingly by points, after almost knocking out Tyson Fury in the 9th round. Now Fury is more hungry for revenge than ever, having just declared that he will turn on “destruction mode” against his opponent.
“In the previous fight with Usyk, I was too cautious and cautious. Any boxer can fall into that state, in a big fight like that. But this time I will not look for a victory by points. I will knock that guy out,” Tyson Fury told Undisputed.
“This fight will be the first time in many years that I’ve entered the ring as a challenger, not a defending champion. And I’m sure I’ll be more motivated as a challenger, because I have something to win. That will fuel my fighting spirit.”
There is nothing to complain about the result of the Fury-Usyk match nearly 7 months ago. The Ukrainian boxer won convincingly with his technique, speed and footwork that were completely superior to Fury’s. So in the upcoming rematch, after making a “big” statement, what will Fury rely on to aim for victory and take the 3 WBA, WBC and WBO belts from his opponent?
As shared by boxing commentator Gareth Davies from TalkSport channel, “Tyson Fury is having a specific plan for the rematch with Usyk and the 36-year-old British boxer’s “special weapon” is nothing strange but a giant body with a huge weight”.
“When Tyson Fury defeated the legendary Wladimir Klitschko 9 years ago, he was 27 years old, still in good shape, with the ability to strike extremely evenly and with both hands as one, moving quickly. But we no longer see that image in the series of 3 matches against Deontay Wilder. Especially in the 2nd and 3rd matches with Wilder, Tyson Fury reached a body weight of approximately 125 kg and showed the image of a true “giant boxing machine”, analyzed commentator Davies.
“From what I know, sources from Tyson’s training camp preparing for the upcoming match, the training team is preparing everything for Tyson to enter the ring to rematch Usyk with his body weight at that mark, 125 kg, which is 5-6 kg heavier than the weight in the match between the two boxers last May.”
It is known that in the classic heavyweight unification match in May, Fury weighed 119 kg, while Usyk weighed only about 101 kg. Even when moving up to heavyweight, Usyk still maintained his body weight around 100 kg, regardless of the opponent.
So, if Fury continues to gain weight, the weight difference between the two will be even more significant when they face each other on December 22 in Riyadh. But despite overwhelmingly dominating in both weight and height (2.06m – 1.91m), can Fury take revenge on Usyk?
“Once the slimmest body of my life, but this is not the Gypsy King (Fury’s nickname). This is him, weighing 125kg or so”, Tyson Fury wrote and shared a photo of his bulky body, before cutting down to fight Usyk 5 months ago, on his social media account recently.
Perhaps, returning to his real weight – albeit heavier – will help Tyson Fury feel as comfortable as possible, both physically and mentally, when stepping into the ring to rematch Usyk. That way, this match will be even more exciting and worth waiting for.
