‘Two finishes in 10 years’… Magomed Ankalaev continues to goad Jon Jones over claims UFC champ is ‘ducking’ Tom Aspinall

Ahead of his heavyweight title fight at UFC 309 this coming weekend, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones has found himself embroiled in another war of words – this time with No. 1 light heavyweight contender, Magomed Ankalaev.

The 20-1-1 Russian contender isn’t content with simply goading Alex Pereira over the UFC light heavyweight title; he’s also trying to stir up some drama with the consensus greatest of all time.

Magomed Ankalaev and Jon Jones exchange insults ahead of UFC 309 title fight

Earlier this week, Jon Jones suggested that he’d be willing to vacate his UFC heavyweight title in order to secure a super-fight against light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira; even teasing that they could throwdown for a new promotional belt.

Those comments haven’t sat well with either Tom Aspinall or number one LHW contender Magomed Ankalaev, who is expected to be next in line for ‘Poatan’ once the Brazilian recovers from the hand injury he sustained at UFC 307.

Ankalaev fired the first shot when he wrote on X that it “Sounds like someone scary of big TOM” in response to Jones’ tease, before admitting that he’s a fan of the British juggernaut and would like to one day train with the interim heavyweight champion.

The 20-1-1 Russian would then launch a vicious verbal assault on Jones, first posting a GIF of Late-Night host Stephen Colbert with two prop needles, followed by an image of ‘Bones’ in a pair of custom Duck-themed fight shorts.

“Jones doesn’t want to fight Aspinall, Pereira is recovering and I’m hungry. I will beat Pereira and after that I can beat Jones.”

Ankalaev is currently riding an 11-fight unbeaten streak, having beaten Aleksandar Rakic in a rather lackluster unanimous decision back at UFC 308 last month.

“Facts, Jon Jones only has two finishes in the last 10 years,” continued Ankalaev in a separate post, adding “He also went to 5 rounds decision with OSP.”

Jones would fire back at Ankalaev’s comments by accusing the Russian of being jealous of his countless UFC records: “Magomed jealousy won’t earn you legend status, my friend… Train harder, hate less. Want to truly insult me? Break some of my records first. Let’s get started.”

Only a few hours later, Ankalaev would respond in kind by calling both Jones and Pereira champions of the ‘DFC’, aka ‘Ducking Fighting Championship’, before calling both superstars a “joke.”

Jon Jones vs Alex Pereira for the ‘BAMF’ world title?

During an interview with veteran reporter Aaron Bronsteter, Jones pitched the idea that the promotion could introduce a new belt for a potential super-fight with Alex Pereira; the Bad A** Mother***** title.

“It would be cool to fight for the heavyweight championship, but I’d also willingly give up the heavyweight championship… I walked away from the light heavyweight championship, and I would love to walk away from this one as well, on top.

“I love the position that I’m in right now, fighting Pereira for the ‘BAMF’ belt, that would be cool,” said Jones, acknowledging that the title lineage works for both superstars.

“We both have two belts in two weight classes and the night we’d fight, we’d be fighting for our third belt, which would be the ‘BAMF’. How cool would that be?”
