In an interview with commentator Tucker Carlson, former Fox News host, at a campaign rally in Arizona on October 31, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was asked whether Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Elon Musk would hold influential positions in his administration if he wins the election on November 5.
“Yes, I think so,” the former president replied.
However, Trump noted that billionaire Musk “doesn’t want to be a cabinet member” and instead wants to focus on finding ways to reduce waste in U.S. government spending.
“He (Musk) thinks he can cut $2 trillion without affecting anyone, and I believe he can do that. He wants to reduce costs; he wants to save the country,” Trump added.
Despite initially claiming political neutrality, Elon Musk officially endorsed Trump in the race for the White House this year.
Trump promised Musk that he would establish a special committee on “government efficiency,” called DOGE, which would be headed by Musk if he wins.
Speaking at Trump’s campaign event in New York last week, Musk suggested that he could reduce the federal budget by “at least $2 trillion” annually, arguing that taxpayer money in the U.S. is “being wasted.”
As for Kennedy, Trump expressed a desire for him to “work on healthcare” and “take care” of the American people. Trump has previously praised Kennedy for his decades of work on health issues affecting families and children in the U.S.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 70, an independent presidential candidate in the U.S. election, officially announced in August that he would suspend his White House bid and declare his support for Trump. He is the son of Senator Robert Kennedy and the nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy.
This week, Kennedy confirmed that Trump has promised him a position in his administration, though he may not lead any government agency.
