Tom Brady Blasted By Ex-Giants Star Tiki Barber After Criticism Of Daniel Jones’ Exit

Tom Brady blasted by ex-Giants star Tiki Barber after criticism of Daniel Jones’ exit

Tom Brady did not have ‘enough information’ to criticize Daniel Jones’ release from the Giants as he did last week, franchise icon Tiki Barber has said.

While commentating on the Giants’ Thanksgiving loss to the Cowboys, Brady questioned Jones’ request to be released from the team after being benched and demoted to fourth-string, saying that he ‘showed up every day’ during his own career.

Crucially, though, Brady’s role as a minority owner with the Raiders precludes him from attending pregame production meetings, and Barber brought up that fact as he claimed the seven-time Super Bowl winner was out of the know.

‘Do you think he’s having that conversation?,’ he asked on WFAN’s ‘Evan & Tiki.’  ‘Because he doesn’t do production meetings… If you have any kind of conversation with anyone on the Giants, you’re not saying that.

He later said, ‘I don’t think Tom is privy enough to the information he needs to be to have that conversation about Daniel Jones, and to criticize Daniel Jones like that. That’s just wrong of Tom.’

Because of his role as a limited partner with the Raiders, Brady is unusually restricted in what he can do as a broadcaster.

In addition to being barred from production meetings, he can’t attend team practices or a team’s facility, or even criticize teams or referees while on air.

Jones, who signed a four-year, $160million extension with the team last year, was guaranteed $23million next year against injury – regardless of whether he was on the team in 2025.

That played a role in the Giants not only deciding to bench him, but demote him to the point where he was playing scout team safety during a run-through on his last day of practice.

Brady said last week that he would have handled things differently than Jones, but Barber took issue with the idea that the passer should have sat idly as his time in New York ran out.

‘The reason he asked for his release, is they wouldn’t even let him work out,’ Barber said. ‘Go in to gym, lift weights, do anything that was physical – he couldn’t do it. So he’s gonna sit around for five weeks, six weeks and basically just be a potato?’

Brady admitted himself, ‘I don’t know how the whole situation went down,’ but proceeded to bash Jones during the Giants 27-20 loss to Dallas.

‘I always felt I wanted to get the trust and respect of my teammates regardless of the situation, knowing that I was trying to be the best that I could for the team because that was the most important thing,’ he said.

Tiki Barber said he was at the Giants’ facility when Jones was released, and called it ‘surreal’

‘There’s just some different things that happen in the NFL, and everyone makes individual choices,’ he went on to add.

‘I think we all at different points in our career face different challenges. I faced them in college and some things didn’t go the way I wanted, but the people that mattered most to me were the guys in the locker room.

‘I showed up every day. I don’t care if they asked me to be scout team safety [or] be scout team quarterback… I was gonna do whatever I can to help the team win.’

Jones has since signed with the Vikings, where he’ll hope to rehabilitate his career as a backup.
