Mourning can shake a person’s passion and energy, and for Tiger Woods, it has never been so true. While the golf world is preparing for the Players Championship, one of the most anticipated events in the PGA Tour calendar, the absence of Woods recalls the personal difficulties that it faces.

Twice winner of the Players Championship, Woods has not participated in this tournament since 2019. This year, his decision not to take part is not a surprise. On February 4, her mother, Kultida Woods, died suddenly. Since then, Woods has taken a step back to mourn and focus on his personal commitments. “This is the third time that I have touched a club since my mother’s death, so I haven’t really got into the game,” he said.

He also shared his current state of mind: “My heart is not in training right now. I have so many other things to manage with the circuit. Once I start to feel a little better, I will look at the calendar ”.

This is not the first time that Woods has been forced to move away from the competition because of personal tests. Recently, he had already withdrawn from Genesis Invitational, mentioning the emotional impact of his mother’s death. “I had planned to play this week, but I’m just not ready … I did my best to prepare myself, knowing that this is what my mother wanted, but I’m still mourning,” he said.
As for his return, Woods could consider participation in the Masters 2025, a tournament that is close to his heart. Despite a disappointing performance at the Masters 2024, where he finished with a score of 16 above par, he remains optimistic. “It was a good fight on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, Saturday did not happen as I wanted, “he said.
Determined to find his level, Woods continues his work of physical and mental recovery. “I will continue to train, keep my body in motion and progress … I hope that my training sessions will gradually get longer,” he said.
It remains to be seen if Woods will be able to succeed in his triumphant return on the course, or if he will continue to face the challenges that mark out his sporting and personal journey.
