The Inter coach attacks the Club World Cup: “So he can’t work!” – Three problems that Fifa cannot ignore

During a fiery press conference on the sidelines of the preparation for the next international commitment, the Inter coach launched a hard attack on the new format of the Fifa Club World Cup, highlighting three fundamental problems that, according to him, put the success of the entire competition at risk.

“The tournament, as is structured now,it cannot be successful. If FIFA does not make significant changes, this club world championship will be intended for bankruptcy, “said the Nerazzurri coach with a decisive tones that have immediately gone around the football world.

1.Unsustainable calendar

The first critical point raised concerns the congestion of the calendar. The Inter coach stressed that the introduction of such a long and demanding tournament in the middle of a summer already full of events (European, Copa América, qualifications, friendlies, etc.) is a strategic error:

“The players are not machines. After a long and tiring season, asking them to face another international tournament, moreover in difficult climatic conditions, it is irresponsible.”

2.Economic and sporting disparity

The second problem is related to inequality between the participating clubs. While the European and South American teams arrive with very rich roses and enormous resources, many other formations – in particular from Asia, Africa and Oceania – struggle to compete on the same level:

“The club world championship should represent global football, but in reality it reflects the same inequalities that already exist. There is a risk that some games will become useless or, worse still, humiliating for certain clubs.”

3.Poor sporting and motivational value

Finally, the Inter technician questioned the real sporting value of the tournament:

“For many European clubs, winning this title is not a priority. The main objective remains the Champions League. The Club World Cup, as it is, does not have the aura of prestige necessary to really motivate clubs, staff and footballers.”

Appeal for a change

By concluding his intervention, the coach launched a direct appeal to FIFA:

“The idea of a world tournament between clubs does not criticize. Indeed, it could become something magnificent. But real reforms are needed: a reasonable calendar, adequate incentives, and an organization that guarantees sports balance. Without these elements, the project is destined to fail.”

His words found ample consensus between colleagues and professionals. Some former internationally renowned players and technicians have also expressed themselves in favor of his observations, relaunching the debate on the future of the competition.

Fifa at the moment has not made official statements about it. But the pressure of public opinion and the same protagonists of world football could force her to review the plans
