David Benavidez claims Canelo Álvarez doesn’t mention his name because he’s the “most dangerous fighter.” Álvarez would rather fight the smaller Terence Crawford and William Scull than Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs). Benavidez believes Canelo is afraid of him, and the fans agree.

The “Mexican Monster” Benavidez believes unified super middleweight champion Canelo would be better off fighting someone in his own weight class rather than choosing someone who recently moved up from 147 to 154 pounds in his last fight.

Saudi Disappointment

“I feel like my name isn’t mentioned because I’m the most dangerous fighter in the world, but the one who gets paid the least,” David Benavidez told Mystic Zach about why Canelo Álvarez hasn’t shown interest in fighting him. “All these fighters, I think, see everything as a business. It wasn’t like that back then, but I feel like the dynamics of boxing are changing.”

Benavidez isn’t happy that Canelo Álvarez continues to avoid him despite signing a contract with the Saudis. He isn’t even mentioned as a possibility for Álvarez to fight, and that’s sad because the Saudis are supposed to be putting on big fights. Neither of the two fights Canelo will fight this year are big fights in the strictest sense of the word.

“Canelo, in my opinion, the best fight he could have is against me because it would be the best fight in boxing.” “We would give the fans a lot of excitement in that fight, but Canelo wanted to go a different route. He wanted to fight someone coming up from 147,” Benavidez said of Terence Crawford. “A smaller guy.”

Canelo’s choice of Crawford, a 37-year-old, older, and smaller fighter, over Benavidez shows he wants nothing to do with him and will play it safe for the rest of his career.

Álvarez will be cashing in on some nice paydays, fighting fighters like William Scull, Crawford, Hamzah Sheeraz, Chris Eubank Jr., and Conor Benn. Dmitry Bivol could join that list if he wins his trilogy against Artur Beterbiev.

Canelo’s escape

“I’m going to say it’ll be an easy fight for him because Terence Crawford is a great fighter.” But I think it would be better for people if he [Canelo] fought someone in his own weight class. In fact, it doesn’t discourage me. It motivates me more because now I know these people are writing me off for a reason.

“Back then, I had the feeling these people weren’t publicly ignoring me. Now, it shows how good I am,” Benavidez said.
