Novak Djokovic entered the match fresh off his recent Olympic gold medal win. Riding high on confidence, the Serbian tennis star faced little resistance from Albot, who has struggled to advance beyond the first round of the US Open since 2017 and was also eliminated early in the first rounds at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon earlier this year.

Djokovic Cruises Through First Round at the US Open

Djokovic began the match with impressive form, easily dismantling Albot in a straight-sets victory. Despite Albot’s strong start, where he won his first two service games without dropping a point, Djokovic quickly broke through, capturing two consecutive breaks. The Serbian star did not falter in the eighth game, sealing the first set 6-2.

The second set saw Djokovic take an early break in the third game, but he quickly lost his advantage. This brief lapse, however, was the only bright spot for Albot. Djokovic regained control, securing two more breaks to finish the set 6-2.

Despite losing the first two sets, Albot showed resilience and played more confidently in the third set. He managed to save five break points in the first five games. However, Djokovic eventually broke his serve in the seventh game, and went on to win the set 6-4.

This victory marked Djokovic’s 89th win at the US Open, placing him alongside Roger Federer as the player with the second-most wins at this Grand Slam tournament in the Open Era, behind only the legendary Jimmy Connors, who has 98 wins.
