Fans blown away by what Max Verstappen did in protest to the FIA following ‘awkward press conference’
Fans cannot believe what Formula One champion Max Verstappen did following his awkward press conference ahead of this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix.
Verstappen has been dominating headlines in Formula One recently after he was handed a community service penalty for swearing over the team radio during races.
The official punishment that was handed to the Red Bull driver for the incidents was an ‘obligation to accomplish some work of public interest’.
And the 26-year-old has once again made news after fans noticed what he did after being involved in an awkward interview at the post-qualifying press conference for Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix.
During the official press conference, Verstappen refused to give any detailed answers to the questions asked by host Tom Clarkson as he appeared to still be frustrated at the FIA, who hosted the press conference, for handing him the community service punishment.
But after the conference had finished, Verstappen held his own press conference outside of the room where the official one was held, giving members of the media full answers to any questions they asked.
Posting about what had happened on social media platform X, The Athletic’s Formula One correspondent, Luke Smith, wrote: “Verstappen made good on his promise to talk to us outside of the room: big group of us followed down the stairs of the paddock building and through the paddock on his way to the TV pen… very surreal!’
Reacting to the news, one fan added: “This max verstappen guy is genuinely not a real person.”
Another agreed with the Dutchman’s actions, writing: “Verstappen should boycott the FIA. Community Service is a joke!”
Whole another added: “Max does the right thing, they are not there to teach manners, the fia is doing stupid things, well he takes away their content.”
Verstappen used the post-official press conference gathering to hit out at the FIA for handing him the punishment, further explaining his behaviour earlier in the day.

“It’s just ridiculous to get a penalty for that,” he told Sky. “These kind of things, for me, I think when you insult someone, that’s pretty clear. I didn’t even aim it at a person. It’s a bit of a slip of the tongue moment.
“Honestly, this is not even to the stewards because they are just bound to a rule book.”
And seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, agrees with Verstappen’s argument, saying in the official press conference: “I think it’s a bit of a joke, to be honest.
“This is the pinnacle of the sport. Mistakes are made. I certainly [wouldn’t] be doing it and I hope Max doesn’t do it.”
