Red Bull Reportedly Alters Max Verstappen’s Contract Amid Winless Streak at Belgian GP

Red Bull Racing has reportedly made a crucial change to Max Verstappen’s contract as his winless streak continues, with his last victory being at the Spanish Grand Prix in June.

Last Sunday, the Belgian Grand Prix saw Mercedes star George Russell take the initial victory, followed by his teammate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. However, Russell’s car was later found to be underweight, leading to his disqualification. This development handed the win to Hamilton, marking his second victory in three races.

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Verstappen, who started 11th due to a 10-place grid penalty from an engine change, was promoted to fourth place following Russell’s disqualification. This marked a tough weekend for Verstappen, extending his winless streak to four races.

Amidst ongoing speculation about Verstappen’s future with Red Bull and rumors of a potential move to Mercedes, it has now been claimed that Red Bull has adjusted Verstappen’s contract to ensure his continued commitment to the team. According to Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle, as reported by The Express, “There is talk that Max Verstappen could leave the team if Dr. Helmut Marko left. My understanding is that all that paperwork has been changed, and that cannot happen, at least until 2026. Max is nailed on.”

Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s senior adviser, holds a significant influence over Verstappen and has been instrumental in his career. Verstappen has expressed deep respect and loyalty towards Marko, emphasizing the importance of his presence in the team.
Verstappen stated earlier in the season, “I have a lot of respect for Helmut and what we have achieved together. It goes very far. My loyalty to him is very big, and I have always expressed this to everyone within the team, everyone high up, that he is an important part in my decision making for the future.”
He added, “It is very important that he stays. I feel like if such an important pillar falls away, and I have told the team this, that it is not good for my situation as well. I think it’s also very important that you give the man a lot of respect for what he has done. That comes back also to loyalty, you know, and integrity. So, yeah it’s important that he stays part of the team, also for me.”
As Verstappen and Red Bull look ahead, the contract change aims to solidify their partnership and focus on future successes.
