Sheldon Keefe Receives Heartfelt Welcome in Toronto as Devils Head Coach Returns to His Coaching Roots

Sheldon Keefe, now the head coach of the New Jersey Devils, made a poignant return to Toronto, where he previously led the Maple Leafs for five seasons. This visit marked his first time back at Scotiabank Arena since his departure in May 2024.

Expressing his sentiments, Keefe shared, “I’m excited for it. I spent nine years there, the Leafs time, but the Marlies time too, was equally special to me.” He also noted the personal significance, mentioning that his family remains in Toronto, allowing him to reconnect during off days.

Upon arrival, Keefe was greeted warmly by familiar faces and observed changes in the arena, humorously remarking, “They painted the walls red for me.”

The game itself was a closely contested match, with the Maple Leafs edging out the Devils in overtime, securing a 4-3 victory. William Nylander played a pivotal role, netting two goals, including the game-winner. Despite the loss, Keefe reflected positively on his time in Toronto, stating, “I loved every single day I coached the Leafs.”

This return not only highlighted Keefe’s professional journey but also underscored the deep connections and memories he forged during his tenure in Toronto.
