Serena Williams Set to Celebrate Excellence at 2024 ESPY Awards
Serena Williams, the tennis legend and host of this year’s ESPY Awards, is gearing up to honor the best athletes across various sports at the upcoming ceremony. In an exclusive sneak peek, Williams highlighted some of the standout nominees for this year’s awards, showcasing a diverse range of achievements in sports.
Among the anticipated honorees are the NBA champion Boston Celtics, who clinched the title this season, and the repeat-Super Bowl victors, the Kansas City Chiefs. Star athletes such as dual-threat baseball player Shohei Ohtani, WNBA rookie sensation Caitlin Clark, and gymnastics powerhouse Simone Biles are also poised to be recognized for their outstanding performances.
The ESPYs, known as a celebration of excellence in sports, will feature categories honoring the Best Team, Best Male Athlete, and the prestigious Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award. Notably, New Orleans Pelicans guard C.J. McCollum has been nominated for his impactful work in criminal justice reform and youth programs.
Reflecting on their past win, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed enthusiasm about the team’s nomination for Best Team and his personal nod for Best Male Athlete. “We like having the target on our back,” Mahomes shared. “It comes with the brotherhood we’ve built and our drive to keep winning together.”
The 2024 ESPY Awards will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 11, at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on ABC, promising an evening of celebration and recognition for the best of the best in sports
