**Serena Williams Focuses on Health and Family in Post-Baby Fitness Journey**
Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion, is diligently working towards her fitness goals nearly a year after welcoming her second child. Speaking with ET’s Rachel Smith about her new docuseries, “In the Arena: Serena Williams,” the 42-year-old tennis legend opened up about her health aspirations, family life, and reflections on her storied career now that she’s retired.
Williams has been transparent about her efforts to regain her pre-pregnancy shape, specifically aiming to fit into a beloved Valentino skirt from before her pregnancies. Updating her social media followers on her progress, she shared, “The journey is ongoing! I have another update to post soon. The fun part is when the journey is over, but I just received some new pants that I can’t quite fit into yet.”
Despite her focus on fitness, Williams acknowledges that she still has some “baby weight” to shed, but emphasizes there’s no rush from her fans, especially since welcoming her second daughter, Adira, in August. Alongside her husband of six years, Alexis Ohanian, Williams also raises her 6-year-old daughter, Olympia, who is known for her candid remarks, like questioning her mom about putting on makeup when “there’s nowhere to go.”
Reflecting on motherhood, Williams finds this second experience more manageable compared to Olympia’s infancy, admitting she’s more relaxed now. “If Adira falls, I don’t panic like I did with Olympia. Now I know she’s tough and will be fine,” Williams shared with ET.
Beyond her own fitness journey, Williams is committed to instilling body positivity in her daughters. She emphasizes the importance of self-love and encourages them to compliment others, fostering positivity and self-esteem. Reflecting on her intense career, Williams admits she would advise her younger self to “relax a little bit more” and not strive for perfection on the court.
Williams’ docuseries, directed by Gotham Chopra, has garnered acclaim for its introspective look at her career’s highs and lows. “In the Arena: Serena Williams” premiered at the Tribeca Festival and delves into pivotal moments that shaped her legacy.
The series promises a deep dive into Williams’ journey, offering fans and viewers a unique perspective on her life beyond tennis. Scheduled for release on ESPN+ on July 10, it’s set to further cement Williams’ status as a cultural icon and role model both on and off the court.
