Serena Williams, the renowned tennis icon and founder of Wyn Beauty, showcased her unique take on the vest trend during her appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Tuesday. Williams joined the eponymous host to discuss her upcoming documentary series, “In the Arena: Serena Williams,” which offers an intimate look behind the scenes of her illustrious tennis career.
On the July 9, 2024 episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” Williams turned heads with her chic summer suiting, featuring a cream vest and matching shorts with subtle gray stripes. The ensemble was accented by a prominent collar, lapel, and dazzling brooches, along with a glittering chain connecting the center of her vest to a side pocket. Completing the look, Williams wore pointed-toe black heels with strappy details.
Williams’ glam for the night included her long auburn tresses styled in cascading waves, a glossy lip, and a standout smokey eye. Her impeccable style complemented her engaging conversation with Colbert, where she delved into the inspiration behind her new documentary series.
“This series captures moments behind some of those amazing Grand Slam wins,” Williams explained. “That’s what ‘Serena: In the Arena’ is all about.” The series, set to premiere soon, promises to give fans an unprecedented look at the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s journey, both on and off the court.
Williams officially announced her transition from professional tennis in September 2022, following her final match at the U.S. Open. Since then, she has focused on various ventures, including the launch of her own makeup line, Wyn Beauty, in April. The brand draws inspiration from her tennis career, with products designed for inclusivity and reliability.
“For years I traveled to countries that didn’t have products made for me, but I still had to look decent for press and events,” Williams told WWD’s Beauty Inc. “Wyn Beauty is about essential makeup pieces that are reliable and inclusive. It’s those 10 items you’d want if you were on ‘Survivor’ and still wanted to look good on camera.”
In addition to discussing her documentary and beauty line, Williams reflected on the broader impact of her career. “We broke barriers and opened doors for others. Seeing so many players say they were inspired by us is surreal and really cool,” she shared.
Williams also touched on the challenges she faced, noting that she was often treated more harshly than her peers. “I was judged way more harshly than others for similar actions. Some of the fines and punishments were unwarranted and disproportionate,” she remarked.
Throughout her career, Williams has been celebrated for her contributions to the black community and her advocacy for equality. She received the NAACP President’s Award in 2003 and the Jackie Robinson Sports Award in 2023. Ebony Magazine also honored her during Black History Month for her role in advancing the black community on the global stage.
As Serena Williams continues to inspire through her ventures and advocacy, her legacy remains a testament to breaking barriers and challenging the status quo, both in sports and beyond.
