Ryan Garcia is in the spotlight, but not for good reasons. After his B sample tested positive for the banned PED Ostarine following his victory over Devin Haney, ‘KingRy’ now faces another issue involving Logan Paul.
The social media celebrity and businessman has filed a defamation lawsuit against Garcia, accusing the boxer of spreading misinformation about his Prime Hydration drinks.
Paul’s company filed a defamation and libel lawsuit against Garcia in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas due to comments Garcia made about Prime in recent weeks.
Defending Prime on his Instagram account while announcing the lawsuit, Paul also mentioned Garcia’s positive PED tests. “I’ve had to spend the last couple of months dismantling ridiculous claims about Prime, and it’s become obvious — Prime is under attack. Why? We’re a threat. Prime is the most disruptive beverage in history and our competitors feel the pressure. It’s likely that we’ve been targeted as the victim of a smear campaign,” Paul wrote.
“Clout chasers know they can use PRIME’s goodwill for attention & views. People don’t like me or KSI. That’s fine. But if you don’t like Prime, don’t drink it. No need to lie about the facts in an attempt to stay relevant,” he added.
The situation escalated after Paul’s post confirming legal action against Garcia. In response, Garcia posted on Instagram: “You’re a b****! I’m going to take everything from you. Including the food out of your kids’ mouths,” and “Go pray to your god” followed by “You’re gonna be sorry like the kids in Gaza.”
Paul quickly responded to Garcia’s comments on his Instagram post: “This was Ryan’s response, by saying I’m killing kids. Dog, I don’t even know what you’re talking about. You don’t have my number, I don’t have your number, and yet you continue to lie. This is why we’re suing you for defamation. You are so stupid. Prime has a thousand employees, dog, we’re a multi-billion-dollar business. It’s not just me, so we’re certainly not going to let you come in here and damage the company for attention. And by the way, the lawsuit, the suit we’re filing, is in Texas, so there’s a mutual combat law if you’re feeling some type of way and want to duke it out outside the courtroom.”
Garcia, one of the most followed boxers on social media, has been involved in several controversies recently. After taking a break from boxing to address his mental health, he returned to the ring with a renewed focus.
However, leading up to his fight against Devin Haney, Garcia exhibited erratic behavior, posting enigmatic messages on social media and struggling with his mental health in interviews. Despite claiming it was all part of a strategy, Garcia’s victory over Haney was overshadowed by his failure to make weight and subsequent positive test for the banned substance Ostarine.
The California native initially dismissed the positive test as “fake news,” but the B sample confirmed the presence of the prohibited substance, adding to the growing list of challenges Garcia faces both inside and outside the ring.
