Roger Federer’s marketing prowess, akin to his on-court skills, stands out in its own league. Recently, as part of On Apparel, he welcomed American actress Zendaya with a bold idea on social media. While it garnered significant attention, it was Karue Sell who praised the 20-time Grand Slam champion, likening him to Ryan Reynolds. The Brazilian tennis player took to Twitter to commend Federer’s forward-thinking marketing strategy in welcoming Zendaya into the fold. He tweeted, “Roger, the goat of marketing. Only behind @VancityReynolds. If you are looking for YouTubers, hit me up @rogerfederer.” Sell highlighted how Federer, like Reynolds, consistently surprises fans worldwide with his innovative marketing ideas. Additionally, Sell expressed his eagerness to join Federer’s team as a YouTuber.
Federer’s initiative began when he posted a photo on Instagram mimicking Zendaya’s iconic pose of sitting in a stadium with her glasses sliding down her nose. Alongside the image, Federer captioned, “It’s @on.” The post reflected Federer’s admiration for Zendaya’s portrayal and marked her recent signing with On, a brand supported by Federer. Federer also extended a warm welcome to Zendaya via an Instagram story, sharing, “Welcome to the On family.” The actress had previously been spotted wearing On’s Roger sneakers during her Challengers press tour, including at a meeting with tennis player Iga Świątek in March. Zendaya expressed her excitement about joining the Swiss brand, stating, “It’s no secret that I’ve been a big fan of On for a long time. I’m always wearing them on set, or when I’m traveling, rehearsing or running around with my dog. So it’s a full-circle moment to make this partnership official.”
Interestingly, Zendaya’s involvement with tennis extends beyond her collaboration with Federer’s brand. The mention of Challengers is significant as Justin Kuritzkes, the screenwriter of her tennis-centric movie, revealed that he partly modeled Zendaya’s character, Tashi, after Federer’s wife, Mirka. Kuritzkes mentioned to GQ how Mirka appeared stressed while watching Federer play at Wimbledon, which inspired elements of Zendaya’s character.
Looking ahead, it remains intriguing to see Federer’s future ventures in business. Nevertheless, Zendaya’s partnership with Federer has undoubtedly piqued interest. What are your thoughts on this collaboration? Feel free to share in the comments below.
