Report: Floyd Mayweather To Rematch Victor Ortiz In Exhibition Match On August 24

Floyd Mayweather is believed to be facing Victor Ortiz in an exhibition match, rekindling a rivalry that began over a decade ago. Their last encounter in 2011 resulted in a highly controversial knockout by Mayweather, which left many fans disappointed and impacted Ortiz’s career negatively. The rematch is reportedly set for August 24th in Mexico, according to Michael Benson.

In their previous bout, Mayweather was slightly ahead on the scorecards when Ortiz, out of frustration, intentionally head-butted him in the fourth round. Ortiz apologized and was penalized with a points deduction. As the fight resumed, Mayweather seized the opportunity to land a decisive one-two combination that knocked Ortiz out, ending the match in a controversial fashion.

Since that fight, Ortiz’s career has struggled, with him losing five out of his last ten fights. Meanwhile, Mayweather has found success in the exhibition circuit, with this upcoming bout marking his eighth exhibition match. Mayweather’s most recent victory was over Aaron Chalmers, a reality TV star turned MMA fighter and boxer. In contrast, Ortiz’s last fight was in 2022, where he secured a decision win over Todd Manuel.
