Tennis legend Rafael Nadal has recently shared some heartwarming details about his new journey as a father. In an exclusive interview, the 22-time Grand Slam champion revealed that despite facing some of the toughest challenges on the court, nothing compares to the experience of raising his son.
Since announcing the arrival of his first child in 2022 with his wife, Xisca Perelló, Nadal has been on a journey full of emotions and learning. “I have always been a fighter on the court, but being a father is a completely different challenge,” revealed the tennis player. “Tennis has clear rules, training, strategies, but with children, every day is a new adventure, full of surprises.”
The Mallorcan confessed that fatherhood has changed his perspective on life and sport. “Now I understand even more the sacrifice my parents made for me,” he said excitedly. “Being a father is not only unconditional love, but also responsibility, patience and constant learning.”
Throughout his career, Nadal has stood out for his discipline and dedication. However, with the arrival of his son, he has had to adjust his schedule to find a balance between his professional and family life. “Travelling constantly and being away from home is the hardest thing,” he admitted. “When I am in tournaments, I think about my family and try to make the most of the time we have together.”
The Spaniard also expressed his admiration for athletes who have managed to maintain their sporting careers while raising children. “I have always respected players like Federer and Djokovic, who have managed to handle this duality. Now, I understand how challenging it is.”
Despite rumours of his retirement, Nadal has made it clear that he has not yet made a final decision. “I love tennis, but my family is my priority. I will continue competing as long as my body and mind allow me, but now my motivation is different.”
Nadal ended the interview with a message for all parents: “Tennis has taught me to be perseverant and to never give up. That is the mentality I want to instil in my son, regardless of what he decides to do in life.”
Without a doubt, Rafael Nadal continues to demonstrate that, on and off the court, he is a true champion.
