Prince William was reportedly “furious” after receiving a ‘get well soon’ card from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that contained what sources claim was a deliberate slight. The issue arose when Harry and Meghan referred to the Princess of Wales as “Kate” instead of her preferred name, “Catherine,” in the card, shortly after she announced her preventive chemotherapy treatment for cancer in March 2024.

Friends of Prince William and the Princess of Wales revealed that William took offense at the Sussexes’ choice of name. A source said, “William was particularly upset that Harry and Meghan couldn’t bring themselves to use her proper name, even when sending her well-wishes after her cancer diagnosis.”

“Catherine” is the name used by close friends, family, and Prince William himself. Before marrying William, the Princess of Wales made a conscious decision to switch from the name “Kate” to her full name, “Catherine.”
This perceived slight might explain why the Waleses did not publicly respond to the well-wishes sent by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. A friend of William commented, “Calling someone by a name they don’t prefer is just plain rude. If Harry and Meghan are serious about mending the rift, a good starting point would be to call her Catherine.”
Harry and Meghan have not seen Kate and William since 2022, and this naming issue has further fueled tensions between the two royal couples.
