Playing excellently, the Georgia goalkeeper ‘changed his life’ even though the Euros weren’t over yet

Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has become the center of attention with his stellar performances at Euro 2024, helping his national team make history and significantly boosting his own profile among top European clubs.

In their first-ever appearance at a major international tournament, Georgia made an immediate impact by advancing past the group stage at Euro 2024. Not only did they secure a spot in the Round of 16, but they also made history with an unprecedented achievement.

Mamardashvili, an introverted talent and accidental star, has arguably been the most crucial player for Georgia, consistently delivering outstanding performances against some of Europe’s top teams. Over the course of three matches in Group F, the 23-year-old goalkeeper made an impressive 20 saves, seven more than any other goalkeeper in the tournament so far. Georgia conceded just four goals in these three matches, thanks in large part to Mamardashvili’s remarkable reflexes and shot-stopping abilities, a key factor in their success.

In their most recent match, Mamardashvili thwarted Portugal’s elite strikers, preventing even Cristiano Ronaldo, renowned for scoring against the world’s best goalkeepers, from finding the net. The 23-year-old and his teammates put on a resilient display, earning a well-deserved three points through relentless effort.

Mamardashvili’s explosive performances at Euro 2024 have reportedly caught the attention of several major European clubs. According to Spanish media, his market value has skyrocketed to at least 40 million euros based on his current form. Valencia, Mamardashvili’s current club, has placed him on the transfer list, anticipating high interest due to his impressive performances, while having a replacement in Stole Dimitrievski, formerly of Rayo Vallecano.

Calciomercato reports that both Milan clubs are keen on signing Mamardashvili, while Burnley, recently relegated to the English Championship, is also eager to join the race.

Currently, Mamardashvili and the Georgian national team are focused on their upcoming Round of 16 match, where they are expected to face a tough challenge against tournament favorites Spain.
