Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will reportedly have his key to Miami Beach rescinded after the city said it would take away the honour following the rapper’s sex trafficking charge
P Diddy’s key to Miami is reportedly being revoked.
The 54 year old rapper is currently held up in New York’s Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting trial. Diddy denied all charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, and his bail request was turned down.
A few months back, Diddy was asked to return his key to New York after a video surfaced showing him mistreating singer Cassie Ventura. Now, it seems Miami is set to follow suit. The father of six was awarded an honorary key to Miami Beach in 2015 by then-mayor Philip Levine.
However, following the arrest of the ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ star, the city now wants its key back. According to reports from TMZ, Miami city officials are in the final stages of negotiations to revoke the key imminently.
The exact date for this change has not been confirmed due to Hurricane Milton, reports the Mirror. Insiders told TMZ that the storm, expected to hit Florida on Wednesday, is the reason for the delay.
Miami Beach has previously given keys to numerous A-list celebrities, including Diddy’s ex Jennifer Lopez. In modern times, the Key to the City symbolises civic recognition and gratitude, reserved for individuals whose public service and contributions to the common good reach the highest level of achievement.
This development comes shortly after Combs returned his Key to the City to New York City in June, following a request from Mayor Eric Adams. The mayor penned a letter requesting the key be revoked following the release of a disturbing video showing Combs attacking his ex-partner in a hotel, captured on surveillance footage.
The mayor declared his support for survivors of domestic abuse, noting that the Key to the City honour is reserved for exemplary citizens and Combs no longer fits the bill. Rapper Sean Combs, aka Diddy, was taken into custody last month and is facing serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals for prostitution.
Since his arrest, numerous other lawsuits have surfaced, and a dedicated hotline set up by attorney Tony Buzbee reportedly received a staggering 12,000 calls within 24 hours, all related to allegations against the star. During a press conference, the outspoken Texan lawyer warned that the public would be “shocked” by the identities of those allegedly linked to Diddy and the claims, but emphasized that he would not disclose their names until the allegations had been thoroughly “corroborated”.
