Oleksandr Usyk is currently making waves in the world of heavyweight boxing following his recent victory over Tyson Fury. Surrounding this boxer, dubbed the “undisputed” of boxing, are some intriguing stories. Back in 2022, Oleksandr Usyk shared about his past military service.
The boxer, born in 1987, revealed his experiences while patrolling the streets carrying a machine gun instead of boxing gloves, with fear engulfing him. “Every day I was there. I prayed and begged: ‘God, please don’t let anyone kill me. Please don’t let me shoot anyone else'”, Oleksandr Usyk confessed. The Ukrainian boxer temporarily paused his boxing career to enlist in the military for a few months in 2022. In August of that year, he returned to the ring to face Anthony Joshua in a rematch to defend his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles. Previously, in 2021, Usyk challenged Joshua and secured a dominant victory to claim all four of his opponent’s championship belts.
