Oleksandr Usyk has announced his decision to vacate the IBF heavyweight title, offering it up for grabs to Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
The undisputed champion, who secured the belt by defeating Joshua in September 2021 and recently unified the division by beating Tyson Fury, will not defend the IBF in his upcoming rematch with Fury on December 21.
Usyk’s move denies Fury the opportunity to become Britain’s first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
Taking to social media, the undefeated Ukrainian stated, “Anthony and Daniel, I know the IBF title is significant to you. It’s my gift to you on September 21.”
Previously pressured by the IBF to defend against mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic, Usyk’s decision comes after Dubois claimed the IBF ‘interim’ belt by defeating Hrgovic earlier this month.
With Usyk vacating, Dubois will now be elevated to full champion status, set to defend against Joshua on September 21.
This sets the stage for a potential undisputed showdown in 2025, as Joshua aims to reclaim the heavyweight world title for the third time following his loss to Usyk three years ago.
