Number One Ranked Heavyweight Vows To ‘Smash’ Deontay Wilder And Knock Him Out If He Returns

Deontay Wilder’s career, much like the fates of many of his past opponents, appears to be hanging in the balance. The Alabama native became a household name in the heavyweight division with his devastating knockout power, particularly his infamous right hand, which helped him dominate fight after fight. However, his reign came to a halt when he faced Tyson Fury, who famously got up from two knockdowns to secure a controversial draw in their first bout. Fury would go on to decisively defeat Wilder in their subsequent two encounters.

Despite a quick first-round knockout victory over Robert Helenius, Wilder’s recent performances have been less convincing. Back-to-back losses to Joseph Parker (by points) and Zhilei Zhang (by knockout) have left many questioning whether the 38-year-old former champion should continue fighting. Some even suggest it might be time for Wilder to hang up his gloves.

However, if Wilder chooses to return to the ring, opportunities still exist. Martin Bakole, the current WBA number one ranked heavyweight, has openly stated he would have no trouble handling the former champion. In a recent interview with his promotional company, BOXXER, Bakole confidently predicted a decisive win over Wilder, dismissing the threat posed by the American.

“Deontay Wilder – I’ll smash him. Small legs, small body, I’ll knock him out,” Bakole declared.

Bakole’s confidence comes on the heels of his recent victory over Jared Anderson, who was seen as the next big American heavyweight contender. Bakole managed to stop Anderson in just five rounds, solidifying his reputation as a formidable force in the division. With support from Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh, Bakole is poised for another significant bout, possibly against Zhilei Zhang, who recently defeated Wilder.

As for Wilder, should he decide to return, there are still viable opponents on the horizon. Alalshikh has indicated a willingness to arrange fights for Wilder against Derek Chisora or Joe Joyce, depending on the former champion’s readiness to continue competing.

Only time will tell if Wilder will heed the calls for retirement or if he will seek redemption in the ring once more.
