Nicki Minaj’s younger sister, Ming Li, recently shared candid insights about her relationship with the famous rapper during an appearance on the We In Miami podcast. The 18-year-old aspiring musician discussed her estranged bond with Minaj, explaining that despite sharing the same father, they were never particularly close.
Ming Li revealed that she never referred to her sister as Nicki, finding it strange and instead calling her by her birth name, Onika. She stated, “We were never close, but we had a good bond. She was always busy, and I was doing my own thing. But at the end of the day, I know that I still got love for her, and she still got love for me.”
Growing up, Ming Li faced bullying due to her connection to Nicki Minaj. She recounted how people would often make her feel uncomfortable by constantly asking about her famous sister. “In elementary, middle school, high school, the moment people knew who I was, they would ask me about my sister or weird things that made me feel attacked and vulnerable.”
Despite the challenges, Ming Li has chosen to pursue a music career similar to Minaj’s. She acknowledged the comparisons and criticism she faces but emphasized her determination to succeed on her own terms. “I still strive to impress her, even though I know I’ll never be at the same level as her.”
Ming Li recently released her first collaborative music video titled “Do It Again” with Rakeem Love. The track showcases her versatility in both rapping and singing, much like her sister.
In her interview, Ming Li expressed a mixture of admiration and realism about her relationship with Nicki Minaj, underscoring the complexities of growing up in the shadow of a global superstar.
