President Trump wants all US ships to be free to move through Panama and Suez, foreign minister Rubio handled the problem “immediately”.

“American ships, both military ships and cargo ships, should be free to move through Panama and Suez canal! Without the United States, these two channels would not exist,” US President Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social on April 26. He said he directed Foreign Minister Marco Rubio to “immediately solve the problem”.
Panama and Egyptian officials have not commented on information.
Panama canal is more than 80 km long, is the arterial waterway connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic, significantly shortening the journey between the two areas and allowing boats not to cross the South American pole. About 5% of the global maritime flow goes through Panama canal each year.
The United States has built Panama canal and territorial management around this canal for decades. The US Government handed over the entire right to manage the canal to Panama in 1999, after the time the two sides co -managed.
Panama canal is an important route that many naval ships, official ships and US cargo ships pass. 40% of American container flow goes through this canal. President Trump once warned to regain Panama canal, not excluding the ability to use force to accomplish this goal. His statement faced opposition from many countries in Latin America.
Suez canal, longer than 190 km, is the shortest transportation route between Europe and Asia. The channel connecting the two cities of Egypt is Suez on the Red Sea with Port Said in the Mediterranean.
About 10% of the global trade value passes through the Suez canal. The maritime activities here have encountered obstacles from November 2023, when the Houthi forces in Yemen raid the cargo vessels through the Red Sea and the Aden Bay, in order to express solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, responding to the British and American attacks into Houthi’s position in Yemen. The cargo ships must choose a longer route through the South Africa.
Egypt last year said the Suez canal revenue fell 60%, equivalent to $ 7 billion.
