Carl Froch has alleged that Mike Tyson will be paid less if he defeats Jake Paul early in their boxing match later this year.
Tyson is set to come out of retirement, having last fought Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. Both Tyson and Paul have insisted the fight will be sanctioned as a professional bout, despite the significant 30-year age gap between them.
Froch, speaking to Safebettingsites.co.uk, claimed that Tyson’s contract includes clauses that reduce his pay if he wins too quickly. “From what I’m hearing, allegedly, he gets paid less if he wins in round one or if he gets a knockout. There are restrictions in his contract based on how he wins,” Froch said.
Froch criticized the fight, calling it a “shambles of an exhibition” and expressed his belief that Tyson’s best chance is to win early due to his diminished fitness and reflexes. He added, “I think it’s disgusting. I hope Tyson lands a few shots and puts Jake Paul in his place, but unfortunately, it’s pre-scripted. I’m not gonna watch it.”
Tyson and Paul, who claim to be friends outside the ring, are set to meet on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas. Despite the criticism, both fighters are preparing intensively. Tyson recently mocked Paul for gaining weight, while Paul has been sparring with heavyweights and increasing his food intake to match Tyson’s size and strength. Paul stated, “I believe fat will turn into muscle and come fight night, I will be able to move and dance around the ring like a true heavyweight.”
