In a candid interview with the New York Times, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has revealed how she leverages her global visibility to support her friends’ products and emerging designers. This disclosure comes amid her recent high-profile tour of Colombia with Prince Harry.
Meghan Markle shared that she intentionally chooses to wear items from designers with whom she has personal connections and supports smaller, lesser-known brands. “When I know there is a global spotlight on me, I use it to highlight designers I have great friendships with and to shine a light on up-and-coming brands that deserve more recognition,” Meghan explained.
She emphasized the power of her fashion choices, noting, “One of the most powerful things I’m able to do is simply by wearing, like, an earring.” Meghan’s approach includes extensive research to discover new designers, particularly those from various regions, to ensure they gain the attention they deserve.
Earlier this month, Meghan and Prince Harry completed a four-day royal tour of Colombia, which drew significant media attention. Despite their joint public engagements, Meghan has opted out of accompanying Prince Harry on his upcoming solo trip to New York City. Harry will be attending the UN General Assembly High-Level Week and Climate Week, where he will participate in engagements with organizations such as African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst.
A source close to the couple stated, “Meghan doesn’t have to attend every event with her husband. If she skips an event, it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong between them. She’s happy for him to take this one on his own to shine a light on what really matters to him.”
Meghan’s decision to use her platform for promoting friends’ products aligns with her broader commitment to supporting causes and individuals she believes in. Her strategic fashion choices not only influence trends but also offer visibility to brands and designers who may not otherwise receive such attention.
As Meghan continues to navigate her role both within and outside the royal family, her approach to fashion and philanthropy highlights the unique ways in which she is using her public platform to drive positive change and support her personal network.
