Megan Rapinoe Champions Colin Kaepernick’s Bid to Compete in Flag Football at the 2028 Olympics, Sparking Major Conversations

Megan Rapinoe has expressed strong support for Colin Kaepernick’s desire to participate in flag football at the 2028 Olympics, calling it an “incredible” opportunity for him to represent the United States. Kaepernick, who has been out of the NFL since 2016 after sparking controversy with his national anthem protests against racial injustice and police brutality, recently voiced his enthusiasm for the new Olympic sport.

“Hopefully we’ll be out there,” Kaepernick told Sky Sports, indicating his eagerness to compete.

Rapinoe, who made headlines for also kneeling during the anthem in solidarity with Kaepernick, emphasized the significance of his potential participation. “That would be really, an incredible moment to have Colin Kaepernick represent America on the biggest sports stage,” she told USA TODAY. She pointed out the ongoing challenges Kaepernick faces, stating, “He continues to be blackballed by the NFL…his career was really robbed from him. If he could get the opportunity to represent America in the Olympics, wearing the flag and everything, I think that would be incredible.”

Kaepernick previously settled with the NFL in 2019 after suing the league for collusion to keep him out. As discussions around his Olympic aspirations gain traction, many fans and advocates are rallying behind the idea of his return to the spotlight.
