Mbappe delivers the saddest news possible for the French national team right after their first match at Euro.

Coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that Mbappe suffered a broken nose after a collision in the match between France and Austria.

Mbappe was the focal point of France’s Euro 2024 opener against Austria. The forward born in 1998 was involved in the own goal by Wober that brought the only goal for France. In the second half, Mbappe had a promising opportunity facing the goalkeeper but missed. Later, the Real Madrid newcomer had to leave the pitch due to an injury.

In the final moments of the second half, Mbappe jumped for a header from a corner kick and unintentionally clashed heads with Kevin Danso. The team captain immediately fell in pain, with blood starting to flow from his nose. Mbappe had to seek medical assistance right away.

After the match, Coach Didier Deschamps also confirmed Mbappe’s nasal injury: “Indeed, his nose was broken. Clearly, this is not good news at all. Everyone agrees this is the least pleasant information tonight. Even though it’s just an injury to the nose area, Mbappe will certainly feel very uncomfortable.”

“I am satisfied with what the players have shown. All matches are difficult; France didn’t do some things well, but the team showed unity and impressive fighting spirit. It’s good to start with a victory. France has a squad of quality and talent, but the players know we need solidity and effort when not in possession.”

After sustaining the injury, Mbappe was taken to the hospital for a detailed assessment. It is still unclear whether the 1998-born forward can play in the match against the Netherlands. If he does, Mbappe is likely to appear with a protective mask.

Mbappe has scored 12 goals in the World Cup after participating twice and playing a total of 14 matches, winning one championship and finishing as runner-up once. However, in the Euro arena, the former PSG star seems to have had no luck yet, with no goals scored.
