Max Verstappen has been offered the biggest contract in F1 history after leaving Red Bull for a powerhouse team.

The world of Formula 1 is in turmoil. Four-time world champion Max Verstappen is at the center of a storm of speculation regarding his future with Red Bull. A persistent rumor suggests a colossal offer, dubbed the most lucrative contract in F1 history, could see him leave the Austrian team to join Aston Martin. With the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix approaching, this news has captivated motorsport fans, reigniting debates about loyalty, ambition, and money in this ultra-competitive sport.

A $300 million offer

According to Italian media outlet  La Gazzetta dello Sport  , Silverstone-based Aston Martin has reportedly offered Verstappen a whopping three-year, $300 million contract. This astronomical sum, backed by Saudi investors, would make the move a historic deal in the Formula 1 world. If confirmed, it would surpass all previous deals, including those of legends like Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.

But why all the hype around Verstappen? At just 27 years old, the Dutchman dominates the sport with disconcerting ease. Despite a mixed 2025 season for Red Bull, marked by performances that fell short of expectations, Verstappen remains a safe bet. His victory at the Japanese Grand Prix and second place in Australia show he can get the most out of a sometimes capricious car. However, Red Bull’s struggles to compete with McLaren, which is dominating the podium, have fueled rumors of a departure.

Aston Martin: an ambitious project

Aston Martin is no small destination. The team recently made headlines by recruiting Adrian Newey, the legendary Red Bull engineer who contributed to Verstappen’s success. Newey, considered a design genius, is already working on the 2026 car, the year when new technical regulations could shake up the hierarchy. Furthermore, the partnership with Honda, which will supply Aston Martin with engines starting in 2026, adds a layer of intrigue. Honda, currently Red Bull’s engine supplier, will end this collaboration after 2025, which could facilitate a transition for Verstappen.

Interviewed before the Japanese Grand Prix, Verstappen kept the mystery alive. When a journalist asked him if Suzuka would be his last race in a Honda-powered car, he replied with an enigmatic smile: “You’re trying to put words in my mouth!” This reaction, mixed with silence and humor, was enough to set social media ablaze, where fans are scrutinizing the slightest clue.

Another key element fueling speculation is a performance clause in Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull. According to  The Times  , the driver could terminate his contract, which runs until 2028, if he finds himself outside the top three in the drivers’ championship after a significant portion of the season. Currently third behind the McLaren drivers, Verstappen could be tempted to activate this clause if Red Bull fails to regain its former glory. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko acknowledged that this clause could become a hot topic between now and the summer break.

While Aston Martin appears to be in pole position, other teams are in the running. McLaren, championship leader thanks to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, is an attractive option. One pundit, Ewan Gale, even mentioned a possible swap between Verstappen and Norris, a bold but not entirely far-fetched idea. Mercedes, despite its sluggish performance, remains a safe bet, and discussions with Toto Wolff already took place last year. More surprisingly, former McLaren mechanic Marc Priestley mentioned Williams as a potential destination. Under the leadership of James Vowles, the team is actively preparing for 2026 with high ambitions and a promising driver duo of Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon.

Verstappen, known for his outspokenness, brushed off questions about his future with a touch of irritation. In Jeddah, he snapped at commentator David Croft: “You focus on the commentary, I’ll focus on driving.” This response illustrates his desire to remain focused on the track, but it doesn’t dispel doubts. As the 2026 season approaches, which promises to be crucial with the new regulations, Verstappen finds himself at a crossroads. Will he remain loyal to Red Bull, the team that brought him to the top? Or will he succumb to the lure of a new challenge, driven by an unprecedented financial offer and promises of glory?

One thing is certain: Verstappen’s future will shape the Formula 1 landscape for years to come. Fans, however, are holding their breath, eager to see what happens next in this thrilling saga.
