NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Larson pointed out a potential problem with the Mexico City circuit ahead of the Viva Mexico 250 race, which will be held at the 2.674-mile Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. This event will be his sixteenth race of the season, and Larson is seeking his fourth win of the year.

The race has generated a lot of excitement because it is the first time since 1958 that the NASCAR Cup Series has been held outside the United States. There are many unknowns about what the competition will be like in this new setting, and for Larson, every little detail will be important.
The 2021 Cup Series champion commented, as quoted by Speedway Digest, that track limits regulations are a factor to consider, but he also highlighted the importance of the competition itself: how drivers take corners, overtaking, and details like pit entry, which are crucial for Sunday’s race.
Larson also mentioned that while walking the track, he identified some areas that could be concerning, although during speed testing, he didn’t find the barriers or tire piles in any troublesome positions to be problematic.
Regarding qualifying, Larson will have a strong starting position, starting the race inside the top 10. His No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro will start sixth on row 3, alongside Spire Motorsports rookie and Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell. Shane van Gisbergen took the pole position with a lap time of 92.776 seconds.
Additionally, Larson expressed his opinion on celebrations in NASCAR, suggesting that drivers who finish second and third deserve more recognition, proposing that podium-style celebrations be adopted for them, especially at major events. He noted that in dirt races, the top three drivers must stop on the frontstretch for interviews, something he believes could be implemented in NASCAR to give more visibility to the entire podium.
The race in Mexico City will be broadcast live on Sunday, June 15, starting at 3 p.m. ET, available on Amazon Prime Video, with exclusive radio updates via MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
