After his first career defeat to Usyk in May, Fury declared: “When I look in the mirror, I don’t see a quitter. I see a man who is willing to do whatever it takes to keep going. If I get knocked down nine times, I’ll get up 10 times.” Fury asserted that without this resilience, he would not have become a boxer, but would have chosen another profession, such as playing pool or darts.
Fury admitted that in the first fight, he let complacency and “antics” on the field dominate. “I need to be more focused this time and not let that happen,” Fury shared.
Fury compares Usyk and Deontay Wilder, confident of victory
Heading into the rematch, Fury expressed his respect for Usyk but also stressed that he was not afraid of facing the Ukrainian. Fury said that Usyk was a talented fighter, but compared to Deontay Wilder, who had nearly knocked him out in his previous three fights, Usyk lacked that fearsome power.
“When you fight a Wilder at his peak, with 42 knockout wins, you know you’re going to have a hard time from the first round. One mistake, and it’s over. But with Usyk, I’m not scared. He can hit me hard and hurt me, but if I’m in that position, I’m sure I’ll knock him out,” “The King of Gangsters” declared.
Fury also revealed that despite losing the first fight, he had no regrets. “I got over it on the flight home. If I had won, great, but I still went home and did my normal job. Life went on,” Fury said.
He insisted the first fight was a close contest and he felt he did enough to win, despite the narrow defeat. “We can’t change the past, but I think the first fight was my best performance in the last five years,” Fury said, still feeling regretful about the loss in May.
Fury vs Usyk rematch: The battle of fighters who never back down
With the goal of regaining three world heavyweight boxing championship belts, Fury affirmed that this rematch is not only an opportunity for revenge, but also an important fight to reaffirm his class.
While Usyk is known for his superior skills and astute tactics, Fury is confident he will not make the same mistakes he did in the first fight. “I controlled the fight 80 per cent of the time. I hit him with effective shots. There is no reason for me to change my tactics,” Fury asserted.
In the end, even though his opponent is a smart and strong Usyk, Fury still maintains faith in his ability, ready to enter the upcoming match with all the confidence and highest fighting spirit.
