As the 2024 Paralympic Games come to a close in Paris, King Charles has sent a touching message of congratulations to the British Paralympians. In a statement, the King acknowledged the team’s inspiring performances, which helped secure second place in the medals table, just behind China. With 49 gold, 44 silver, and 31 bronze medals, Team GB achieved a remarkable total of 124 medals.
The King’s message praised the athletes’ dedication, determination, and immense talent, highlighting how their victories have “inspired, encouraged, and lifted the hearts of all.” He also extended his gratitude to the support teams who contributed to these accomplishments. The King and Queen Camilla, currently in Balmoral, expressed pride in Team GB’s achievements, recognizing the significance of their success for the whole Commonwealth.
The British athletes, led by Paralympic champions Matt Bush and Poppy Maskill at the Closing Ceremony, have upheld their country’s tradition of excellence, continuing their streak as runners-up in six of the last seven Summer Paralympics. Chef de mission Penny Briscoe praised the exceptional performance of the athletes across a wide range of sports, emphasizing the increasingly competitive standards of the Games and looking forward to future challenges, including the Los Angeles Paralympics in 2028.
With the curtain closing on another memorable Paralympic event, Great Britain’s athletes return home with pride, celebrated by the nation and honored by the King for their incredible accomplishments.
