Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ Makes Waves at Kamala Harris Rally in Atlanta.
Kendrick Lamar’s hit track “Not Like Us” has made a significant impact on the election season. On the evening of Tuesday, July 30, Kamala Harris, a potential Democratic candidate for the upcoming presidential election, held a rally in Atlanta where Lamar’s diss track aimed at Drake was played to a lively crowd.
Footage from the Vice President’s live stream quickly went viral on social media, capturing the crowd singing along to “Not Like Us,” particularly the catchy “wop, wop, wop” and “A-minor” lines. One male fan gained fame for his passionate rapping along to the song.
The rally’s atmosphere was electric, with fans drawing parallels between the song’s lyrics and the political landscape. “Everything in this song could apply to Trump,” one fan commented on X. “She’s smart.” Another took a jab at Drake, saying, “Even in a presidential campaign, Drake gets cooked!”
Even nearly three months after its release, “Not Like Us” continues to hold strong, ranking at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 as of August 3. Lamar’s track has permeated various aspects of pop culture, from politics to sports.
Hip-hop was undoubtedly present at the rally. Quavo supported Vice President Harris and spoke about his commitment to gun safety following the tragic death of his nephew, Takeoff, in November 2022.
“One of the issues I care about is addressing gun violence,” Quavo told the crowd. “You can’t understand the struggle of gun violence if you aren’t in it or at the center of it. So, one thing I learned working with Vice President Harris is she’s always steadfast in her work. From inviting me to the White House last year to discuss these solutions to passing the biggest gun safety laws today.”
Megan Thee Stallion also graced the stage, dazzling the Atlanta parade with her blue suit and energetic performance alongside her dancers. She performed hits like “Body” and “Mamushi,” supported by Yuki Chiba.
“Now I know all the women in the crowd love their bodies. If you want to keep loving your body, you know who to vote for,” she said, kicking off her performance.
According to Reuters, it remains unclear if “Not Like Us” will continue to be a part of Harris’s campaign as she heads to Philadelphia next week on August 6 for another rally, where she is expected to announce her Vice Presidential candidate.
With President Joe Biden stepping down from the presidential race on July 21, numerous artists have thrown their support behind Harris in her bid for the Oval Office. This list includes Cardi B, Lizzo, Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, Questlove, and many others.
