Billionaire Elon Musk is continuing to donate $1 million to voters ahead of the November 5 presidential election while a lawsuit filed by Philadelphia Attorney General Larry Krasner is pending.
On November 1, a U.S. federal judge decided to transfer a lawsuit related to billionaire Elon Musk’s program of randomly giving away $1 million to voters in connection with the upcoming presidential election on November 5 to a Pennsylvania state court.
Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, continues his initiative of awarding $1 million to voters leading up to the presidential election while the lawsuit filed by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is pending.
On November 1, Musk awarded $1 million to a man in Michigan and affirmed that he would keep giving money to voters daily until Election Day.
District Attorney Krasner, a Democrat, has sued Musk and America PAC (a political action committee founded by Musk to support former President Donald Trump) over the random cash giveaways to voters in battleground states. The plaintiffs argue that the cash giveaways constitute an “illegal lottery,” enticing residents of Pennsylvania to provide their personal information.
Musk’s lawyers had requested to move the case to federal court, but Judge Gerald Pappert denied the request, stating that the Philadelphia state court is the appropriate jurisdiction.
Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice warned Musk and America PAC that the lottery program might violate federal law.
According to America PAC’s website, to date, 14 people, including four from Pennsylvania, have received awards totaling $1 million.
Elon Musk, 53, who is also the owner of social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has heavily invested in rallying voters to support Republican candidate Donald Trump since publicly endorsing the former president in July.
The world’s richest man is reported to have donated $118 million to his political action committee.
Additionally, he has appeared alongside Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, one of the states considered crucial for the outcome of the upcoming election.
Trump’s campaign largely relies on outside voter mobilization groups. This means that America PAC—an ardent supporter of the former president’s campaign—plays a significant role for Trump in the race for the White House.
