The season that seemingly that would never end finally has.
And on a high note, even.
The New York Jets (5-12) concluded their miserable 2024 NFL season with a 32-20 win over their AFC East rivals, the Miami Dolphins (8-9).
Most in New York will just be happy it’s over. But we’ve got to break down one more game now.
Here are Jets Wire’s five takeaways from the Week 18 win:
The Dolphins were not going to crack the 2024 postseason even if they won. Miami needed a victory and the Denver Broncos to lose to the Kansas City Chiefs… and the Broncos routed the Chiefs’ backups in a 38-0 win.
Even so, the Jets only had one thing to play for in their season finale: Playing spoiler. After this team showed no signs of life against the Buffalo Bills last week, Gang Green played with some energy in this one.
It’s a bit of a tongue-and-cheek note… but it probably played a part mentally.
As noted, the Broncos needed to lose. This Jets-Dolphins game was played in New York. Because of that, the home team was in charge of the scoreboard at MetLife Stadium.
What did the Jets do? Show the score of Denver vs. Kansas City… which was a blowout the entire way. That is deflating… and it showed.
Love him or hate him… the Jets got a heck of a game from Aaron Rodgers.
It could be the 41-year-old’s final game in the NFL. Time will tell. If so, he went out in a big way.
After his first pass was tipped and intercepted, Rodgers finished the contest 23-or-36 passing with four touchdowns. His last game with the Jets might go down as his best.
Entering Week 18, a big problem for the Jets was their ability to take the ball away on defense. New York had 13 the entire year before kickoff… the Jets had four against the Dolphins.
Defensive back Ashtyn Davis had two interceptions. Gang Green recovered two fumbles as well. That needs to be some momentum carried over into 2025.
All in all, this is what most care about above all else.
The 2024 New York Jets season is over. Time to reboot.
