Jay-Z has finally revealed the touching story behind his daughter Blue Ivy’s name after years of speculation. The 53-year-old rapper, who shares six-year-old twins Sir and Rumi with Beyoncé, 42, had kept quiet about their eldest’s moniker until now.
The name ‘Blue’ wasn’t chosen for its color, as many had assumed. Instead, Jay-Z disclosed to Gayle King, 68, that it originated from a nickname they affectionately used for their unborn daughter during her first sonogram. Originally planning to name her Brooklyn, the couple lovingly referred to her as ‘Blueberry’ throughout the pregnancy.
“For nine months, we were like, ‘Look at the little blueberry,'” Jay-Z shared. “So, it just was natural. We just took the ‘berry’ off of it and called her Blue.”
In addition to revealing the name’s origin, Jay-Z also spoke about his daughter’s growing up and her perception of him as a ‘cool dad’. He recounted how she now seeks his and Beyoncé’s advice, especially on fashion choices, reflecting on her journey from initially being embarrassed by her parents to seeing them as cool.
Blue Ivy gained widespread attention for her appearances alongside Beyoncé during her Renaissance Tour, where she showcased her talents and stage presence. Jay-Z expressed immense pride in her performances, emphasizing her empowerment and the significance of her song ‘My Power’.
Throughout the interview, Jay-Z also addressed a viral debate about accepting half a million dollars in cash or opting for a lavish lunch, underscoring his pragmatic advice not to pass up a good financial opportunity.
The revelation about Blue Ivy’s name and insights into their family dynamics underscored Jay-Z’s pride and affection as a father, reflecting on their journey together in the public eye.
