Jake Paul to Surpass WWE Legend Brock Lesnar for the ‘Largest MMA Debut of All Time’

In an unprecedented move, social media sensation and professional boxer Jake Paul is set to make his highly anticipated debut in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Having signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) last year, Paul’s first fight in the octagon is scheduled for 2025. PFL CEO Peter Murray has confidently stated that Paul’s debut will eclipse that of WWE legend Brock Lesnar, who made his MMA debut in 2007.

Murray shared his excitement with SunSport, saying, “When Jake Paul debuts in MMA, it will be the largest MMA debut ever, a massive global mega event. And you’ve heard directly from Jake, he’s taking the sport seriously while he continues to compete at the highest level in boxing and blows people’s minds.”

Paul’s commitment to the sport is evident, as he balances his boxing career with rigorous MMA training. Murray praised Paul’s unique approach, “He’s doing it his way which is incredible to watch and he really is, from a fighter’s point of view, not only thinking about his own career but other careers within his camp and world. He’s supportive of the PFL’s fighters-first mission.”

The PFL is preparing for Paul’s debut by lining up a significant opponent, although details remain under wraps. “When he debuts, it will be against a big name in MMA and there are a number of athletes who are putting their names out there. There’s a list and it’s growing. So we will be sharing more details at the appropriate time,” Murray added.

Brock Lesnar, who won the UFC heavyweight title in 2008 after just four fights, set a high bar for crossover athletes. However, Lesnar retired in 2011 after a loss to Alistair Overeem. Despite a brief return in 2016, which ended in controversy due to a doping scandal, Lesnar’s impact on the sport remains significant.

The PFL has also seen success with other crossover athletes. Women’s boxing champions Claressa Shields, Savannah Marshall, and Amanda Serrano have joined the league. Shields, with a 2-1 record in MMA, continues to make waves, while Serrano, yet to debut for the PFL, boasts two wins and a draw in the cage. Marshall is set to make her MMA debut this Saturday in Newcastle against Mirela Vargas. A potential MMA rematch between Marshall and Shields, following their 2022 boxing title fight, is already being discussed.

Murray hopes that the success of these female boxing stars will inspire more boxers to transition to MMA. “We have Amanda Serrano, champion and she’s an incredible boxer obviously, highest level and she has history in MMA. We signed her and we’re looking forward to Amanda getting back in the cage,” he said.

Jake Paul’s MMA debut is poised to be a landmark event, attracting global attention and potentially redefining the career paths of combat sports athletes. As the PFL continues to grow its roster with high-profile names, the anticipation for Paul’s entry into the octagon only intensifies.
