Jake Paul has been advised by fans to reconsider his upcoming fight against boxing legend Mike Tyson after the 57-year-old posted new training footage. The highly anticipated bout is set to take place on July 20 at the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Tyson, who hasn’t fought professionally since his 2005 retirement, has shown impressive form in recent training clips, sparking concerns for Paul. Tyson previously went eight rounds with Roy Jones Jr. in a 2020 exhibition match, but fans worry the YouTuber-turned-boxer may be in over his head.
“If Mike is the underdog, please bet the house. Free money. His legacy won’t be tarnished by losing to a YouTuber,” one fan commented. Another added, “Jake, you can still say no. It’s ok.”
Despite the concerns, Paul remains confident and excited about the challenge of facing Tyson. “It’s good to carry fear into the ring and with you on a daily basis when you’re training because it makes you better. It excites me that I have my toughest and most powerful opponent to date,” Paul said on his BS podcast. “The challenge of going to heavyweight is fun; it’s a benefit because I’ve been eating a lot of pasta.”
Paul acknowledged Tyson’s impressive training but believes he is being underestimated. “He definitely is looking like an animal. People are underestimating me. They see how good he looks on the mitts, but looking good on the mitts is not even half the battle. He’s got to face me in the ring,” Paul remarked.
The fight’s professional status remains unclear, as Tyson will need to pass brain and heart scans to be eligible. Paul, on a three-fight winning streak since losing to Tommy Fury last year, views Tyson as his toughest opponent yet.
As the fight date approaches, fans and critics alike will be watching closely to see how the matchup unfolds and whether Paul can rise to the challenge of facing a boxing icon like Tyson.
