Jake Paul has faced both Tommy Fury and Mike Tyson in his fledgling boxing campaign, as well as a number of former UFC stars.
The 27-year-old made a brash entry into the sport and has become one of the most controversial stars in recent years. Having built up some experience facing and beating MMA fighters like Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley, Paul suffered his first and only defeat when he stepped up against a more traditional boxer in Fury. Though he put the Brit down, he lost a split decision on the cards.
Paul bounced back with wins over Nate Diaz, Andre August, Ryan Borland and Mike Perry before facing ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson in an underwhelming eight rounder that shattered numerous viewership records.
The former undisputed heavyweight champion was largely uncompetitive past the first round, showing all of his 58 years as he hung on to to hear the final bell and lose wide on the cards.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Paul had no doubt that Fury hit him harder – in fact, the hardest in his career – when asked about Tyson’s famed punches.
“Tommy Fury [is the most power I’ve felt in a fight]. It’s the shots you don’t see so Tommy was a little tricky. If you see the punch coming you can prepare for it, if all of a sudden you can’t see it and you get hit, that’s when it hurts. So Tommy was more tricky with that, but Mike’s punches I could see coming.
Tyson was strong but he didn’t land anything clean so I honestly didn’t feel Mike Tyson’s full power, which is good because obviously you don’t want to.”
Paul is likely to rematch Fury at one stage in an attempt to avenge the loss. The Brit recently pulled out of a fight with former UFC fighter Darren Till due to threats of head kicks.
