Jake Paul has gained several extra months to prepare for his highly anticipated bout with Mike Tyson. Originally scheduled for July 20, the fight has been postponed to November 15 due to a medical scare involving Tyson. This delay, however, has not deterred other challengers from lining up to face the YouTuber turned boxer.
Come November 16, another superstar, female boxing champion Claressa Shields, is keen to step into the ring with Paul. Shields, a dominant force in women’s boxing, has openly challenged Paul to a fight, expressing confidence in her ability to defeat him.
“The offer is always up there if Jake Paul wants to scrap with me,” Shields told TMZ Sports. “I don’t think that he’s that good of a boxer. I’m never ever going to say or even feel that Jake Paul can beat me in a boxing match because he can’t.”
Shields’ challenge to Paul is not just about proving her superiority in the ring. She mentioned a personal beef, recalling how Paul called her a “loser” after she lost a split-decision in her MMA debut. “You can’t call me a loser because you don’t box better than me,” Shields stated. “And you damn sure don’t do MMA better than me. You do nothing better than me.”
Despite the rivalry, Shields did acknowledge Paul’s contribution to the sport, particularly his role in elevating the popularity of fellow female fighter Amanda Serrano. Serrano is set to fight Katie Taylor on the undercard of the Paul-Tyson bout, marking another significant event in women’s boxing history.
Shields, 29, boasts an impressive 14-0 record, holding titles from the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, WBF, and The Ring in the female middleweight division. Paul’s professional record stands at 9-1, with six knockouts, although he suffered a split decision loss to Tommy Fury in 2023. His upcoming fight with Tyson, who has not fought competitively since 2005, remains one of the most talked-about events in boxing.
As the date for the Paul-Tyson fight approaches, the boxing world waits in anticipation not only for the main event but also for the potential showdown between Paul and Shields. The prospect of these matches promises to deliver thrilling moments for boxing enthusiasts everywhere.
