Jake Paul has confessed to feeling “fearful” after watching training videos of his upcoming opponent, Mike Tyson. The YouTube star and boxer opened up about his apprehensions on his podcast, BS With Jake Paul, as he prepares for their highly anticipated bout on July 20, 2024.
Paul, 27, will face the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Despite Tyson not having fought professionally since 2005, his recent training videos have showcased his enduring power and intensity, leaving Paul both motivated and nervous.
“Yeah, he was sprinting! It’s motivating, I think. It’s good to carry fear into the ring and with you on a daily basis when you’re training because it makes you better,” Paul shared. He added, “It excites me that I have my toughest and craziest and most powerful opponent to date. The challenge of going to heavyweight is fun; it’s a benefit because I’ve been eating a lot of pasta. He definitely is looking like a f***ing animal.”
Paul acknowledged that many people are underestimating him and voiced his thoughts on the widespread skepticism about the fight. “When I go to his comments, they’re saying if Mike loses then fighting is rigged. They see how good he looks on the mitts, but Mike looking good on the mitts is not even half the battle. He’s got to face me in the ring.”
Despite his fears, Paul remains confident and sees this fight as the biggest challenge and opportunity of his career. “This is the biggest moment of my life,” he admitted. The fight, which will be broadcast live on Netflix, is expected to draw massive viewership and has already stirred significant controversy and excitement in the boxing world.
Paul’s boxing record stands at 9-1, with six of his victories coming by way of knockout. Tyson, a legendary figure in boxing, boasts a record of 50-6, with 44 of his wins by knockout. As the fight date approaches, fans and critics alike are eager to see how this unique and high-profile matchup will unfold.
